5/5* "Wonderful spot" by shoshikw from Massachusetts, Feb 2018, TripAdvisor
We loved our unit #11 on the fourth floor. The kitchen was well appointed, the view gorgeous, and the rooms comfortable. The only issue is that the master bedroom lacks a little privacy because of louvered windows which connect to the living room which let a bit of light in when trying to sleep. A bit odd. Otherwise, great.
5/5* "Playa Caribe Unit 8" by RoseDie from Canada, Feb 2018, TripAdvisor
We are seasoned travellers, who prefer villas/condos. Casa 8 in the lovely Playa Caribe building did not disappoint! First I must comment on the staff. They are exceptional, from Augustin at the front desk to maintenance, security and housekeeping. Everyone is friendly and so helpful. After spending three weeks here we feel like we are leaving family. The building is located in the center of Half Moon Bay. A great location. We had one week with no seaweed then the winds changed and the beach is totally covered. Although they try to remove it they cannot keep up. Casa 8 is very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you need. Dishes, pots, pans, appliances, plastic containers for storage and patio dishes. Excellent! The reverse osmosis water is a great perk! Towels are soft and bedding adequate. Laundry facilities would be a great add for long term visitors. As well, adding a satellite dish with Canadian & USA channels would be great for folks staying longer. The view is spectacular from Unit 8 as it is a center Unit. We thank the staff of Playa Caribe for their hospitality!
5/5* "Family Fun at Playa Caribe #4" by lmc1110 from Illinois, Jan 2018, TripAdvisor
As advertised and pictured. We are well traveled and this was one of our favorite condo rentals. So well decorated, layout was functional and spacious We felt right at home. The welcome basket was nice touch and the staff was amazing. We felt so surrounded by friendly faces and safe. The view from the balcony can't be beat--get up and watch the sun rise. We ate out there a lot for breakfast and snacks. We left the doors open from the master bedroom almost all the time to enjoy the view. We would read, napped and would just hang out in the bed. Two large baths great for a family of four, we have a 12 year old and 14 year old, this was perfect for us. Two things about this vacation that made it superior, the suggested daily schedule and location in Half Moon Bay and easy walk to town. We would walk almost every night to town for a drink, dinner or ice cream, under a clear sky the 1/2 mile trip each way was refreshing and beautiful. We followed the 7 day agenda for the most part and it delivered. We did Tulum, Coba, Sian Kian Bio Sphere, snorkeling, and all the suggested restaurants. We had our favorites slightly different then the host but that is what makes the world go round. We liked La Cueva Del Pescordor for the fish. Everyday we had Lucy's Ice Cream, in one week my son must have tried, 10 out of the 30 flavors. If you need a break from Mexican go Italian at Taverna. The setting alone is magical, it was one our top favorites besides the fish place. Also the vibe and location at the La Buena Vida can't be beat. Make a reservation and ask for a table on the water. Amazing at night. Also they have lots of entertainment there so stop by for a drink and something will be going on between 8-10PM. Good all ages but our tween and teen loved it as did we. We rented snorkel gear for the week and went off our beach everyday. We saw sea turtles, tons of fish, and colorful coral why leave your own backyard. Rent this condo if you are looking for pre-built vacation that can be as low key or action packed as you want to make it. Akumal and condo are charming and easy! You may never leave but if you do the Mayan surroundings are worth the trip.
5/5* "A very special place!" by Desiree W. from California, Jan 2018, VRBO
I really can’t say enough good things about Annie’s condominium! It is in a beautiful location right on the ocean and every night we fell asleeep and woke up to the soothing and relaxing sound of the waves from Half Moon Bay. Inside the condominium is a delightful feast of cheerful color and design....immaculate and comfortable. The staff who work at the complex are friendly and helpful. Also, thank you Annie for all of your tips before we arrived! Can’t wait to come back.
5/5* "Quiet Lovely Stay, Well Cared for and Safe" by Kathleen K., Jan 2018, VRBO
We really enjoyed staying at Annie's. We were there this last January with our 2 small children (3 and 6). Maybe less crowded due to mild winter in US and State Dept warning. However, we never saw a "questionable person" and as extensive world travelers, we feel we are always aware. The condo was one of the best appointed I've stayed in Mexico. There is some construction 2 buildings away, but they were very quiet and really not noticeable. The staff we friendly and capable. The small convenience store across the street was nice (bread, beer and peanut butter kinda place). Chomak grocery in town is expensive. I highly recommend going with CARM transfer and having them stop in Playa for your groceries (165$ round trip!). Also, don't feel weird about buying milk that is non refrigerated here, it's really ok! (of course put it in the fridge after opening) There is a golf cart rental right as you come into Akumal under the arch, and the benefit of using them is you get to park in their lot. That is a big bonus as parking can be hard when in town (Annie can tell you the name). But with older kids, I would just rent bikes. The beach is not very busy which is a plus for us, much different than Akumal beach in town. The town beach has areas roped off in the water for sea turtle snorkeling run by companies (blah) and full of people. The wind is much less here than Tulum (wind is tiresome for little ones) but the beach in Tulum is hard to beat. I would definitely come back here and to Half Moon Bay: Quiet, friendly and oh so easy...)
5/5* "Quiet and convenient" by Shawnira from Tampa, Dec 2017, TripAdvisor
We stayed in unit #2 for a week. This unit is on the first floor and faces the ocean. Its very clean and well-equipped. The only complaint, and its minor, is that the towels and sheets need to be replaced. They were clean and laundered, but they are worn. Bring an extra towel if you are sensitive to that sort of thing. To get to this building, you come through the arch, past the security gate, and go about a half mile. There is plenty of parking for guests. The staff is very helpful and omnipresent. One of the coolest things is that every morning and midday a few little vendors stop by in their car or pickup selling tacos, tortas, or empanandas out of their trunk. Right across the road from this building is a small but fully-stocked store, with food, and other necessities. Most folks use water shoes in this area because the water is rocky, but don't buy them at home. Buy them at the little store when you get here! The sunrise is absolutely stunning. If you want to save some bucks, you can get by without a car. You can snorkel on this beach, you can snorkel at Yal Ku. You can walk 20 minutes to the main Akumal beach and you will find 15 or 20 little stores, restaurants etc. Also at this spot is the Dive Center where you can book scubas trips. You do not need any advance training for this. We saw turtles almost every time we snorkeled out, just a couple hundreds yards out straight out from the condo. If you want authentic local food, you need a car and you need to drive to Tulum. Here was our intinerary: 1-Yal Ku, Half Moon Bay, 2-Tulum, 3-Coba and a few cenotes, 4-Half Moon Bay and Akumal, Tulum for food, 5-Xcaret GREAT show at 5:30PM, 6-Tulum beaches (south of town they are really sandy which is a nice change), 7-Playa del Carmen to walk 5th Ave, then back to Half Moon. We had a car so were able to mix in other little cenote trips, restaurant exploration, souvenir shopping, etc etc.
5/5* "Wonderful place to relax and unwind!" by Anonymous, Oct 2017, VRBO
Playa Caribe #5 is one of the best holiday excursions I’ve ever taken! Annie and John really go the extra mile to make sure guests feel welcome and comfortable during their stay. All of the additional information Annie has compiled in their notebook here at the property as well as online was really informative and helpful in motivating our family to experience some different things during our trip as well. Turtles were out of season, but the snorkeling was amazing, the food was fantastic, the locals are wonderful and we really couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our trip! Thank you again!!! And we look forward to visiting in the future!
5/5* "A magical week" by Margie C., Aug 2017, VRBO
How often do you book a rental online, study all the pictures, read the reviews... and when you arrive, it's actually NICER than the descriptions? I didn't think this was possible until we arrived at Playa Caribe #4. This condo was sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and the layout was perfect. It's an open feel, where we could lay in bed in the master bedroom, and look through the living room to a spectacular view of the beach. The bathroom was spacious, with plenty of water pressure, the kitchen was well supplied equipped, and there was plenty of closet space with enough hangers for all my clothes. The bed was comfortable, and the towels were incredibly plush. The staff at Playa Caribe made us feel welcome, safe and were very friendly. We were fortunate to see the sea turtles laying their eggs, as well as babies hatching. Jose was more than happy to knock on our door to wake us up. This vacation was the first time my husband & I had traveled to Mexico and we were a bit apprehensive. But that all vanished within the first few hours. We didn't rent a car, but I would recommend doing so. The roads are easy to navigate, and taxis got expensive. The town of Akumal is very safe, and we walked to and from town after dark without any fear. Our favorite restaurants were La Buena Vida and The Turtle Creek. Although there was a good amount of seaweed on the beach, it didn't bother us too much. We just went swimming in the pool instead. When entering Half Moon Bay, there were a lot of rocks in the water to navigate. I would recommend beach shoes. Shari was the perfect host. She emailed us all the information we needed for a "perfect week", and was very responsive in answering all of our questions. My husband & I had one of the best vacations ever in Akumal, and we can't wait to go back!
5/5* "Loved #5" by Ikali409 from Missouri, Jul 2017, TripAdvisor
We loved our stay at #5. The condo with views of the bay from every room is exactly as it was pictured, and the daily housekeeping was really nice. We got to watch sea turtles come up the beach at night and nest which was amazing. Annie was great to communicate with us. The road getting there is pretty rough but well worth it. We would stay here again and would recommend renting from Annie. She's fantastic.
5/5* "Excellent Condo on Half Moon Bay" by Carolyn T. from Austin, Jul 2017, TripAdvisor
My family stayed in condo #12 in the Playa Caribe building for 5 nights in July 2017. We rented a two bedroom/ two bath unit on the fourth floor. Pros: Gorgeous view; very clean and tastefully decorated; ample hot water; great HVAC; spacious; nice bath and beach towels; good staff; well cared for property; Netflix. Cons: pillows were a bit hard (this is very minor); wifi seemed weak at times. Recommendations: No elevator, so don't rent on the 3rd or 4th floor if stairs are a problem. I liked the added privacy and didn't mind the stairs. Rent a golf cart in order to go into town easily. We wish we had. Condo #12 was terrific for my family (myself, my husband and two teens). The master is closed off from the living room with a louvered door and curtain so note that the privacy is not 100%. The condo is very nice with two super clean and very nice bathrooms. The kitchen seemed well stocked, but I didn't cook. If we return to Akumal, I would stay in this condo again. The view of the bay is just gorgeous.
