Casa Cavu [1]
Great property with everything you need.
Reviewed on 2024-09-03 by Pedro V. , Homestead, FL USWe truly enjoyed casa cavu. The property is in a good location but a rental car is a must. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around it. We really enjoyed our stay. Jose and Delfina who were the care takers were great as well.

Beautiful Home!
Reviewed on 2024-07-01 by Ariana A. , LANCASTER, PA USWe enjoyed our recent stay in Casa Cavu particularly because of the staff! I can't thank them enough. They made our stay easy, like a hotel. The staff kept the house clean, gave us recommendations for local spots. They went far and above general Airbnb cleaning service. The home was lovely, very spacious, next to a beautiful shoreline. The entire shoreline was full of saragossa (seaweed) though they try to clean it every day. It is just too much to keep up; some other areas in the coast are worse. Though we didn't swim in this beach area we did enjoy the view and relaxing on the sand (soft sand). There are a few sea turtle nests on the property and hope a guest will be lucky to see them hatch in fall. We had plenty of lines, beach towels, etc. The area is guarded by security and very quiet. There is a hotel next door that makes great cocktails and delicious food. Note on the Construction: The crew was there on some days of our trip. The construction did not bother us though we were also out touring in the day time and it may bother some people. We would stay again with the construction and all.

Great location, snorkeling at your door & walk to restaurants.
Reviewed on 2023-02-20 by brenda H. , Kendrick, ID USIf you're looking for a quieter vacation experience this is perfect. Very nice Bay with great snorkeling right in front of the house. The water access is Rocky but if you have your fins on it's not a problem. Very few people on the beach so it feels like you have the whole place to yourself. There are approximately five local restaurants in nearby boutique hotels you can walk to and a cenote. The home was very clean and The master bed was comfortable. Unfortunately the couches really are not. But you don't spend much time in the house anyway. My only complaint would be the lack of hot water. In order to take a shower you need to turn the hot water only on and it's lukewarm at best. Overall a great vacation property with excellent on-site managers. Felt safe and well taken care of the entire time. Also it's an easy 10-minute drive into Tulum if you're looking to visit a busier area.

Relaxing beach stay...but timing is key
Reviewed on 2022-04-20 by , Goleta, CA USThe house is nice, fully equipped, and was just right for our group of 7. We made use of the kayaks almost daily. The on-site staff are delightful and welcoming. We did not see or meet the management staff, but they were responsive before our arrival. As mentioned by earlier reviews, the directions to the house need updating. Unfortunately, the wind was absolutely howling the entire time and the sargasso arrived just prior to our stay. To be clear, neither are the fault of the property or staff, but I would strongly recommend booking your stay for another time (we were there in late March/early April.

Lovely house in a lovely place.
Reviewed on 2021-04-12 by aubrey c. , Lyons, CO USCasa Cavu is a beautiful house in Tanka 3. We had a great week there. The caretakers, Isidro and Roccio have done a lovely job maintaining the house. We ate at all of the restaurants on the beach and enjoyed each one. Casa Cenote is just short walk down the beach and a great place for tacos and margaritas. Our first day there we had some really nice snorkeling straight off our beach. It got a little breezy for the rest of our stay in March- I guess this is typical, but we had a great time exploring the Tulum ruins, and nearby towns. Our best meal was, by far, the lobster feast that Isidro cooked for us. Don't miss the opportunity to have him cook up something special for you! The only downside to our stay was the wifi- there was weak to no signal. It was fine, but on the few occasions we needed to do some work in the "real world" it was impossible. While that was a mixed blessing, we also couldnt stream any music, movies, etc. The upside is we got to watch the waves and listen to the breeze in the palm trees. Great place, and we'd stay there again.
Lovely, but isolated
Reviewed on 2021-03-07 by , Minneapolis, MN United StatesIf you like/need your creature comforts and technology, you may find this location lacking and frustrating. We had work and school, so it was not ideal for our family. We understand that Tankah Bay is not good for internet and there is a lot of seaweed that comes into the bay.
Everyone was kind and considerate. We are the type of family that like places to congregate, appreciate the ability to getaway to our space and watch a program, and comfy beds. This is not that kind of home. This is a beautiful and simple home that has few amenities beyond the beauty of location.
We stayed here as a "vacation in place" during COVID. The house is beautiful and the pool is great! The views are lovely from every angle. Make sure you bring or buy beach shoes. We also brought our own snorkel gear, which we believe is a must. There are reviews that accurately state that the beach is really rocky (it is on a reef after all), but not ideal for smaller ones. I will state that the internet in the area is very uncertain, not because of the property, but because of the providers. You must also have a car to stay here because the area is without many amenities. If you are looking to disconnect and appreciate a beach getaway, this is a beautiful home.

If you like/need your creature comforts and technology, you may find this location lacking and frustrating. Fantastic Location, great home, and wonderful caretakers!
Reviewed on 2021-02-17 by , Kennewick, WA USTitle says it all. We spent 7 nights here with our 4 kids. The location is away from the chaos of Tulum, but only about a 10 min drive. The caretakers were so wonderful (scoop: Isidro is an AMAZING chef - cooked up our fresh fish like a pro), and kept the house and grounds immaculate. The snorkeling out front is good, but depends on the currents; the cenote drains into the bay and the water clarity is hit and miss due to the fresh/saltwater mixing. Nights were just amazing to look at the stars on the top roof. A/C in each room, keep it as warm or cool as you'd like. Some days the breeze was strong off the water, other days calm. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Peaceful location with great view
Reviewed on 2020-10-08 by Katherine D. , Warrenton, VA United StatesThe house is really nice and we truly enjoyed the beautiful views and peaceful location. However, the house does need certain updates that would accommodate guests better. A larger tv is needed, especially during this time where people want to stay in because of Covid. Also we experienced a rather larger tropical storm and the power was on and off for two days which was inconvenient. Maybe having a small generator would be handy. The caretaker Isidro and his wife are sweethearts, and would do anything to make you feel at home. I highly recommend his flan, ceviche and Mexican stew. Overall it was a great place to stay!

The healing vacation our family needed!
Reviewed on 2009-01-07 by Deb G. , Bozeman, MT United StatesThis property was a dream come true for our family who was grieving the loss of two family members within the past few months. Everything was perfect -- an oasis away from the busy Christmas holiday season around us. Only suggestion would be that non-perishibles (spices, condiments, canned goods, etc.) be left for the next guests to use -- we had to purchase everything we needed and, thus, had to leave behind a fair amount of food products (following the "green" reuse philosophy). Another suggestion would be that the property manager, Rhett, check in with guests more than his one-time arrival greeting. He was our only English speaking contact and when attempting to reach him by phone only got a fax line. Otherwise, this vacation could not have been any better!! Thank you Marcia at Akumal Direct!!!
