We stayed at La Sirena condos on Half Moon Bay for a week in October, 2024. We have been traveling to Akumal since 2004, starting at the Akumal Beach Resort and then renting condos on Half Moon Bay. This was our first stay at La Sirena and we loved it! The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The condo itself (unit 14) was roomy, comfortable, well equipped, and has a great view of Half Moon Bay. Francesca and her staff were great. Other than so-so water pressure in the shower (not a deal breaker by any means), we loved everything about La Sirena and would definitely return.

As long as you’re okay with stairs ( the unit is on the 3rd floor) this condo is perfect! Great cross breezes from the ocean and courtyard, everything you need in the kitchen, AC in the bedrooms/kitchen and a gorgeous view of the bay. We’d definitely stay here again!

This condo is fine. Could use some general maintenance. Didn’t seem super clean, but this is more a function of the aging condition of floors, counters and fixtures. Beds are comfortable. Kitchen is adequately stocked. Management company is very responsive and addressed questions and a couple of issues immediately. The grounds at LaSirena are beautiful and well maintained. The view from the condo is awesome. There is easy access to snorkeling. The outdoor positives offset any shortcomings of the condo itself.

My party of 3 had a fabulous time at La Sirena. The pictures are no lie, this place is beautiful. Great snorkeling in the reef right outside and more lagoon snorkeling right down the street. It was within a gated community and felt very safe. We would definitely stay again.

The view and location are like a dream. The apartment complex is beautifully landscaped and the pool is lovely. Our stay was comfortable and the home was equipped w everything we could need. We loved every second and miss it very much! All staff were amazing!

We stayed at La Sirena #14 for 8 days. The location is incredible! The snorkeling in the bay is beautiful, and Yal-Ku lagoon is walking distance. There are multiple nearby restaurants that were all excellent! The management was very responsive and answered any questions before/during our trip promptly and professionally. The maid service was good as well. The A/C units worked great, which was very important to us. The unit is stocked with all basic dishware and appliances, all in good condition. The unit was reasonably clean. The pool was clean and well maintained. The only recommendations I would offer are that the unit could use some general maintenance/repair/cleaning (broken counter tiles, moldy grout in showers/corroded shower heads). I also discovered two dead American cockroaches when untying one of the curtains to close it. Not a huge deal, but could be remedied by more frequent deep cleaning. The water pressure was very low and the shower seldom heated up enough to even be considered lukewarm. Not an issue if you travel during the hottest months, but a warm shower would be nice. The beds are very firm, but the abundance of pillows makes this tolerable. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we look forward to our next visit!

We love off the beaten path, small places to stay in great locations. This condo fit the bill. Snorkeling right out of the back door - and even better, literally just down the adjacent street 200 yards away phenomenal easy calm snorkeling in the Yal Kul lagoon. ($14 a day and well worth it)
We were so impressed with the Akumal team's communications with us - both before and during our stay. Prompt answers, polite and friendly. We arrived very late in the evening and made use of the lockbox next to the door.
Views were unbeatable, ocean breezes kept things cool at night, and one day was so hot we used the in-bedroom air conditioner - a quiet unit that was perfect. Beds were comfy, linens and towels nice and soft. Owners are eco conscious - towels and linens changed after one week. We made use of the clothes drying line. Rose, the daily housekeeper, was wonderful and respectful of our hours.
The kitchen was very well stocked with spices and oils and everything you need to cook - but there are some great little beach side restaurants just down the road. All the places have huge 5 gallon bottles of purified water on the counter and they'll bring a spare if you run out.
We rented a car, but you could easily get around on foot and pay higher prices for food.
Akumal Half Moon Bay was great - no big resorts, lots of places that have been here a long time. We loved having the ocean out one balcony and the pool off another, and were lucky to have quiet neighbors during our stay.
Highly recommend this third floor unit - it was perfect! Pack light - you won't need much more than a bathing suit and a change of clothes. Everything else is here in the condo including blow driers, shampoo and cream rinse.
And thank you to the previous guest for leaving eggs, butter and coffee in the fridge. We returned the favor for the next guest.

We enjoyed our stay here. I loved that the kitchen had everything we would need, including a blender and coffee maker. Wonderful large covered balcony. Air conditioning worked well. There was no hot water in the shower one day, even after letting it run a couple minutes, but it seemed fine the next day. There were some ants in the kitchen, but I assume that's common around here. While the view is nice up on the top floor I wouldn't recommend this particular unit for elderly people or anyone who isn't steady on their feet. It's a lot of stairs up to the unit and many steps inside the unit itself - sunken living room, etc. If you're up for the stairs, it's great. We also enjoyed the swimming pool and access to Half Moon Bay, which was great for snorkeling. Akumal bay is a total circus so it was nice to be here where there are fewer people. We were also able to walk to Yal-Ku Lagoon/Cenote from the condo. There are only two restaurants within walking distance, but they are both good.

We had a very peaceful and restful time in this beautiful place. The pool and inner court yard is very well maintained and beautiful. Our condo was OK but not as well equipted as it could be. The juicer didn't work and other things were substandard.
One morning I found a large scorpion in the kitchen sink. I killed it and then sent pictures and a message to the fellow from Akumal properties and never did get a response from him.

Akumal is a charming, low-fuss village & we weren't interested in some of the other towns nearby that are way to crowded now. The location of our condo was ideal & we literally had the best snorkeling conditions around! There is an abundance of sea life right there: eels, sting rays, many types of colorful fish, sea urchins, coral (always wear water shoes!). We even saw bioluminescence! We had a picture perfect view of the Caribbean Ocean from our balcony & massive ocean facing windows. We were steps away from swimming & snorkeling or just relaxing under a palapa, listening to birds & feeling the breeze under the palm trees. The property was just as it is described, better actually. Everything you need is right there & we stayed for two weeks. Daily maid service was a real treat for us all & it felt like a true vacation not worrying about constant clean up (except tidying up little messes, of course). Akumal Direct always got back to me about any questions I had (& I had a lot!) & they even accommodated us when we needed to make a last minute change. They were incredibly thoughtful & patient which meant so much to our family of four traveling internationally for the first time due to COVID. We decided not to rent a car & stayed closer to home for the duration of our vacation. Instead we rented a golf cart one day & also the on-site bicycles for several days. These modes of transport made going out to dinner (La Buena Vida, Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery), getting groceries or getting over the bridge to Akumal Pueblo for fresh produce at the local vendor stands much easier. Other than that we walked all over (to dinner a few minutes walk at La Lunita) & to Yal-Ku cenote & lagoon many times (which is a 5 minute walk). The pool area is lovely & the beach is paradise. I enthusiastically recommend this property to anyone looking to visit Akumal. We would love to return one day!!

We stayed at La Sirena the first part of July. It was very hot so the air conditioning was much appreciated. The unit was spotless, well decorated, comfortable and had a spectacular view. Gaspar, the property manager was fabulous and helped us deal with a number of issues from a malfunctioning rental car to advice on snorkeling trips. Snorkeling in half-moon bay was iffy as the current was very strong. Yal Kul Lagoon was great!

Just one minor inconvenience to be aware of: the door leading to the balcony has to remain locked as the balcony is not baby-proofed and babies could easily fall down. Our kids loved the pool and so did we; its shaded area is lovely.

LA SIRENA #14 - is always good for us. We're somewhat long term and may become more so. The unit is showing some age - faded cusions, chipped tiles and grout, the oven doesn't work and the sliding screen door is pretty rough. Once again we ended up with a barking dog in the unit next to us (Iguana #15?) Why people bring their dog and make it sit in their condo all day and night I'll never understand. This poor creature sat at the window and barked the entire time. We are planning a family reunion for next year and may need housing for 10 or so. I'll be looking around. Hector is the best.

LA SIRENA #14 - is always good for us. We're somewhat long term and may become more so. The unit is showing some age - faded cusions, chipped tiles and grout, the oven doesn't work and the sliding screen door is pretty rough. Once again we ended up with a barking dog in the unit next to us (Iguana #15?) Why people bring their dog and make it sit in their condo all day and night I'll never understand. This poor creature sat at the window and barked the entire time. We are planning a family reunion for next year and may need housing for 10 or so. I'll be looking around. I was suprised to find fannel sheets on the king bed in the master bedroom. We enjoy sleeping with the windows open and A/C off. This was very difficult to do with fannel sheets in July. Suggest regular sheets be provided. p.s. The down comfortable was a very nice touch.

things were great ! but I would definitely recommend new bedsheets as the current ones are literally see-through !! not up to par ! Sams nearby has great ones very reasonable.. also, towels had bleach stains and were thin.. I've stayed in Akumal at similar condos 5 different times and this is the first for these issues... there was plastic on the dining chairs also (felt real cheapy ).. the place was great otherwise.. thanks, Stephen I would recommend this condo building, but not this unit.. thanks! The view from the condo was wonderul as was the property. There were a couple of very small maintenance items that need fixing (a light swith that needed to be wiggled and a sliding door latch that had to be played with to get it working). There is a very large private pool with lap pool that serves the condo in a beautiful interior garden. The good and bad about the beach is that once in the water there was no sand just coral. So water shoes or if snorkling scuba booties are very helpful. The good news is that the coral begins immediately so you see tropical fish with 15ft of beach. Great place, looking forward to returning.

There wasn't even a cutting board or a strainer in the kitchen. We had a condo so we could COOK! Felt like the owner had equipped at a garage sale. Saw MUCH better in other units. So, we loved the complex and people, appreciated the great service, but not unit #14.

We stayed at La Sirena Unit #14 in AKumal for 10 nights in Feb. 08. The unit is nice but the 52 steps almost killed us. It was 52 steps up and 52 steps down everytime we wanted to go back to our condo for something. We will never again stay in a unit that has steps because we hated the fact that if you were enjoying yourself on the beach in front of the building and had to go to the bathroom or get a snack or whatever, it was 52 steps both ways. We are in and out so much that this was a big inconvenience for us. The unit is very nicely decorated and clean. The view is beautiful. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace every morning enjoying that view. Only real drawback is the 52 steps. If you don't mind steps, the place is great.

I didn't realize there was a DVD player in the condo-I would have brought some movies (as we had rain one or two days) for the kids. We walked to Yal-Ku lagoon, just down the block, and drove to the main beach and shops. Very low key. Went fishing one day and caught a mahi mahi; it was nicely cooked up by the main restaurant for dinner. We had rented a car and drove everywhere-no tours or buses or big hotels. I really liked that the condo was simple, clean, and authentic, not cookie-cutter. No elevator, just 3 flights of stairs. I would highly recommend this place if you are seeking a quieter, simpler vacation. The only downside was the main road that the condos and shops are on-it is simply bumpy, pot-holed, and we probably could have walked faster than we drove-it was that bad. Maybe the price to pay for authentic?
