A beautiful and comfortable home!

Not only did we get the villa through them, they also helped arrange transportation, a private chef, and a catamaran tour with snorkeling. Villa Balam Ek is just gorgeous! Very close to the restaurants and Akumal Bay. The owner, Ingrid, greeted us minutes after our arrival to share info about the property. She is so kind! The villa is immaculate inside and out. The kitchen is so well stocked! I can't think of anything we needed that wasn't available! The outdoor space is wonderful. We spent most of our waking hours there. Having our own private pool was so nice. If you got too hot all you needed to do was jump in and cool off! The staff were so great! Roberto was there every morning to clean the patio, chairs, tables etc. One day he chopped the top off coconuts for each of us to drink fresh coconut water. Leticia kept the inside sparkling! From dishes in the kitchen, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, sweeping and mopping floors - she was on it! We highly recommend booking a private chef through Chef Daveed. Our chef, Chef Ruben, and his assistant were personable, professional and incredible chefs! Our food was delicious! Fresh, flavorful and perfect! We loved our catamaran with snorkeling tour through Akumal Dive Shop. We were the only guests on the boat with Captain Abuelo, sailors Rebecca and Santos. The snorkeling was beautiful. The beer and margaritas were plentiful. The food prepared right in front of us was delectable! Villa Balam Ek is the place to be in Akumal!

Lovely home base in Akumal

The house is very comfortable with lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy the ocean breezes and waves crashing on the rocks. Bedrooms are all comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. Leticia, Humberto and Roberto were all very nice and helpful, too. We loved our time at Villa Balam Ek!

I can say that everything about Villa Balam Ek is exceptional. From Akumal Direct, to the lovely owner, to the house keeper, gardener, cook and security guard - we were highly impressed and felt well taken care of and very safe. I traveled to Akumal in mid May with my three adult daughters, using Happy Shuttle Cancun for a reasonably priced transfer from the airport - they were fabulous. After we arrived we rented a golf cart for the short jaunt into town. So much fun! The inventory is low so be sure to reserve before you arrive. The small town of Akumal is lovely and quiet. The sargasso was heavy in Half Moon Bay so we spent most of our time relaxing at the house or at the beach in Akumal Bay, though we found the beach to be very busy with turtle snorkeling guides seeking our business, so we did not hang out there too long. This is a very small community with fabulous restaurants and loads of gift shops. We loved the peace and quiet of Akumal. We so appreciated the cleanliness of the home, the beautiful gardens, the quick responses from Ingrid, the perfectly sized pool, the quietness of the neighborhood, the spectacular sunrise views from each room, the views of the two bays from the dock, the especially kind people of Akumal, the Mayan cooperative shop, the meals from Rosa the house cook, the private cenote tour with JP, and so much more. We never felt unsafe during our time in Mexico, from our arrival to our departure. We truly hope to return again in the near future for a longer stay. Thank you Ingrid and Akumal Direct.

Balam Ek [56]Balam Ek (the mayan Jaguar constellation), originally designed and built by famous architect Jose Luis Moreno, was recently remodeled by another international awarded architect Javier Muñoz. This is a well known house here in Akumal with its lovely outdoor and indoor living areas leading out to the refreshing round swimming pool set in expansive wooden decking overlooking the bay. The perfect spot for sunbathing, alfresco dining, or relaxing under the stars.
Balam Ek sports 3 and a half comfortable air conditioned bedrooms in the main house, and a further bedroom in the casita adjoining the house. The ensuite master bedroom is on the upper floor and is furnished with a king sized bed and has it's own lovely private terrace. The decoration in the ensuite bathroom off this master bedroom is also lovely! There is a small bedroom furnished with a single bed adjoining the master bedroom which is a nice set up for a couple holidaying with a child. The upper guest bedroom is also ensuite and furnished with two queen sized beds and a single bed. This room offers great views over Half Moon Bay and the sparkling Caribbean beyond. The third bedroom in the main house is located on the ground floor with it's own private terrace leading out to the pool area. This ensuite bedroom is furnished with a king sized bed which can be separated into 2 single beds if required.
The casita is the perfect place for teens, couples, and members of your group desiring a little more privacy from the main group. This is a fabulous 2 level airconditioned casita with terraces looking out over the gardens to the ocean and comes complete with a well-stocked small kitchen, living and dining areas, and a lovely bedroom on the upper floor furnished with a king sized bed. One of the most fabulous features of this casita is the ensuite bathroom with it's massive shower room and wonderful outdoor ocean view!
